From Pioneers to
Powering the Future.

For more than five decades, the First American Nuclear Co. team has been at the forefront of nuclear energy innovation, engineering, and deployment. From our early roles in constructing reactors that power the country today to our contributions to advanced reactor design and nuclear fuel cycle technology and our leadership in commercial deployment strategies, we have played a critical role in shaping the industry.

Through their careers, our highly experienced team has taken place in every significant reactor project in the country.

We carry that legacy with us today.

A Legacy Built on
Real-World Expertise.

First American Nuclear was organized in 1997 as Columbia Basin Consulting Group (CBCG) to specialize in nuclear legacy projects, including the cleanup of the Hanford Site, one of the most complex nuclear remediation efforts in history and the restart of the Fast Flux Test Reactor, America’s last operating advanced reactor design.

We played a key role in major nuclear energy initiatives, including:

• Supporting TerraPower’s Traveling Wave Reactor design and contributing to reactor physics and liquid-metal cooling system development.

• Providing design and operational expertise for fast spectrum reactors, including
the Experimental Breeder Reactor I & II (EBR-I & II), the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF),
and the Versatile Test Reactor (VTR).

• Conducting feasibility studies for DOE programs such as the Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative and the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP).

• Numerous projects with our National Labs and engineering consulting work for nuclear companies around the world.

Our founder and President, William “Bill” Stokes, has spent over 40 years leading nuclear energy projects. He has witnessed firsthand the failures of high-profile, expensive nuclear projects that overpromise and underdeliver.

Our mission is clear: Deliver reliable, scalable, and economically viable nuclear power solutions.

Breaking through bureaucracy – Delivering proven solutions –

Breaking through bureaucracy – Delivering proven solutions –

While others chase speculative designs that may never reach deployment,
we are building practical, scalable, and economically viable nuclear energy solutions—today.

A History of Excellence
A Future of Leadership.

First American Nuclear’s expertise is built on real-world nuclear projects, tackling the industry’s toughest challenges. With decades of experience, we are uniquely positioned to bring next-generation nuclear power to market—quickly, safely, and affordably.

  • FANCO is a primary reactor design contractor in support of systems and facilities design for sodium cooled fast reactors based off Experimental Breeder Reactor II concepts.

  • FANCO was contracted to support the design of several systems for the Travelling Wave liquid metal reactor design including the fuels examination and test qualification center and fuel remanufacturing facility for a proposed closed fuel cycle.

  • FANCO teamed with PNNL as an original participant in the DOE’s GAIN Program, earning awards in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, FANCO secured a DOE grant to develop pre-conceptual designs for a U.S.-based, lead-bismuth-cooled, fast spectrum small modular reactor.

  • FANCO conducted critical feasibility and cost assessments for restarting the FFTF (Fast Flux Test Facility), evaluating its potential for research and energy production.

  • Playing a critical role in EnergySolutions GNEP Team, FANCO helped develop the Advanced Burner Reactor concept for an integrated closed fuel cycle complex. This facility was designed to reprocess LWR fuel, fabricate recycled fuels, and enhance the burnup ratio of long-lived waste products through a fast-spectrum commercial-scale burner reactor.

  • FANCO provided design and operational expertise to most US Fast Reactor designs used as the basis of current SMR designs: Experimental Breeder Reactor I & II.

  • FANCO was contracted by the Idaho National Lab to develop reactor systems for the Versatile Test Reactor, a proposed liquid sodium reactor based off the GE-Hitachi PRISM design.

  • FANCO was the primary contractor on several projects involving the Versatile Test Reactor.

The Future of American
Energy Leadership.

Our expertise and experience makes us the leader in America’s
nuclear resurgence. The U.S. cannot afford to fall behind. We can deliver the fastest, most viable path to restoring America’s leadership in nuclear power.

We’ve spent 50 years proving what works. Now, we’re deploying it.
